01 · the challenge

The Women in Political Participation (WPP) project — led by International IDEA, funded by Sida, and delivered by a consortium of seven partners across eight African countries — was closing its first phase (2019–2024) with a depth of impact that lived mostly in documents. Each partner championed a different front: FAWE through education, FEMNET with women parliamentarians, Gender Links through research and the Africa Barometer, IFAN through media framing, Padare through male allyship, WLSA through law and policy. The brief: distil all of it into one cohesive infographic animation film — every partner’s story, one consortium narrative — that stakeholders would actually watch.

02 · the approach
scripts from the evidence Each partner’s five-year record — milestones, bills championed, barometers published, leaders trained — translated into timed narration scripts with scene-by-scene visual direction, from Kenya’s legislative wins to Botswana’s Deputy Speaker.
storyboards for approval Full storyboards pre-visualising every sequence — giving International IDEA’s secretariat and each consortium partner a frame-accurate view of their story before a single frame was animated.
mixed-format animation Infographic animation blending mapped data, iconography, and character sequences — barriers cracking as women step forward, calendars flipping through decades of movement-building — scored with sound design to keep every minute alive.
one cohesive film All seven partner segments woven into a single consortium narrative under one visual system, closing on the shared tagline — “Women Lead Africa” — delivered end-2024 and launched early 2025.
