01 · the challenge

Education Rwanda needed a national platform that could hold the country’s education data — schools, teachers, students, resources — and make it usable by radically different audiences: a parent choosing a school, a learner seeking resources, an administrator updating records, a policymaker reading national patterns. The data had to be explorable from the national level down to a single school, secure at every layer, and maintained by the institution’s own teams — with the public website and the data portal developed in parallel.

02 · the approach
data models design & development The database schema designed and relationship-mapped for the full education domain — schools, locations, teachers, students and resources — and reviewed with the client before a line of application code.
secure api interface API endpoints for every entity — schools, locations, teachers, students, available resources — secured with Basic Auth and OAuth2, so the portal, the website and future systems all draw from one governed source.
role-based backend dashboard A portal backend for administrators and content managers, with menus limited by role — modules for learners, schools, parents, the curriculum, Rwanda’s education policies, and e-learning, publications and online resources.
front-end integration The public website, developed in parallel, integrated via the API — a map-based interface with geo-located data for every school, aggregating and disaggregating at national, province, district, sector, cluster and school levels.
